The tripwires cause a small amount of damage to enemy NPCs and temporarily cause them to fall over. Minifences simply act as tripwires, and have half of the minimum and maximum range. A 'megafence' with twice the minimum and maximum ranges will completely block pathfinding through it as it is solid and has collision. The barriers can be passed through by friendly characters, but will damage enemy ones. Fence post NPCs closer or further from this range will be ignored. Each one can link to up to 4 others, at a range of 20-30 studs each. If one dies, all of the walls connecting to it are destroyed.
Fences: Placeable NPCs which cannot move, but automatically link together with walls. Each planet has its own 'tree' object or set of objects, but they may not all be actual trees (e.g. Some ideas for locations include an asteroid belt (heightmap is made by only placing tiles matching a math.noise greater than 0.4 or so, stone terrain and such), Eiof (mountainous with spruce trees, little to no structures, and a small selection of species), Embun Beku (frozen wasteland with dungeons and other structures built into/embedded in the ice, 'trees' consisting of small igloo-like caverns with animals inside), Trodsa (a mixture of mountain forestss, lakes and perfectly-flat areas covered in a grid of non-destroyed buildings and roads), Uossa (mostly normal terrain, but a lot of oceans, and the occasional giant, near-vertical mountain range), Earth's moon (Stone terrain, lots of explosion-craters, and some small alien moon bases scattered about). This should be one of the last things implemented, so that as many bugs are already fixed as possible. Those Who Remain is like a new dish created by an inexperienced chef haphazardly combining a variety of his favorite flavors: laudable in aspiration, but unlikely to prove tasty to very many people.-Space travel and other worlds: A combination of a game universe system, a central space station (or something of the sort), and other mostly-duplicate places with a different environment (monster list, world generator, etc). Opening endless empty drawers in hopes of finding something useful and trying to edge around corners looking for a light switch without any indication as to how close you're getting to the instantly lethal darkness just isn't much fun - especially when death means reverting to a distant saved game that forces you to begin exploring the current area from scratch. While it's always nice to see a game that makes exploration and puzzle solving its focus rather than mindless shooting or hacking and slashing, an extra level of care needs to be put into these games' mechanics to make them compelling. Muddy looking graphics, frequent technical issues, middling writing, and stale voice acting put a damper on things, forcing unavoidable, unfavorable comparisons to horror games made with more time, resources, and quality assurance testing. Unfortunately, all this ambition clearly outstrips the game's budget. The notion of using darkness as a deadly, physical manifestation of fear and evil is, if not terribly original, at least compelling, and makes for some interesting puzzles - especially in moments when you travel through a Twilight Zone-style light door into a mirror dimension where you can move objects and change things that will remain changed in the real world. You'll be torn up over the decisions you have to make, mainly because Edward is a deeply flawed protagonist desperate to be forgiven.
Those Who Remain is an ambitious attempt to create a thoughtful horror experience that makes players really consider what's right, what's wrong, and if and when people who've made mistakes deserve a chance to redeem themselves. It's best to be in a forgiving frame of mind while playing this one, and not just because you're presented with plenty of situations where you'll be judging the fate of characters who have done wrong.
